Cheese + lobster = killer combo.
XIÙ: Fine Cantonese Dining
Those that frequent San Juan would know that Lugang Café has been closed for a while and no one really had any idea on what would replace it. But after 6 long months, the team behind Lugang Café, Tuan Tuan Chinese Brasserie, and The Dessert Kitchen, are now ready to unveil Xiù Fine Cantonese Dining.
FUN FACT: Xiù translates to “elegance” in English.
The elegance is truly felt everywhere, from the logo to the prominent art installation that reminds you of real falling leaves. This two-floor, 230-seater restaurant’s interiors are a beautiful mix of glass, woodwork, floral patterns, and silk.
There are also 5 private rooms complete with hand-painted artwork and lush shades of blue and gold for your occasional parties and celebrations.
Since the architecture is already luxurious, the food can’t possibly be too, right? Well, you’re wrong. Xiu has partnered with Lawrence Koo, from West Villa Hong Kong, and Executive Chef David Cheung of West Villa and Lei Garden, along with seven Hong Kong chefs, to bring the finest Cantonese dishes to all of you.
To start, let yourself enjoy these tasty appetizers.
Honey-glazed Prime Cut Char Siu
Xiu prides themselves in cutting their char siu as thick as possible, but still keeping the meat tender and lean.
Cantonese Style Crispy Pork Belly
Try this classic with their mustard sauce!
Now, let’s move on to the mains and must-try dishes.
Baked Stuffed Sea Conch, French Style
The conch shell is stuffed with conch meat, mashed potato, a little bit of curry, bacon, and topped with cheese.
Double-boiled Fish Maw and Almond Soup
Double-boiling is a traditional Cantonese cooking method that doesn’t let ingredients get in contact with boiling water thus preserving their natural essences. The other ingredients in the soup aside from fish maw will be served on another plate. Surprise: there are chicken feet and pork lungs in there!
FUN FACT: Fish maw is full of collagen, so eat up, it's good for your skin!
Stewed US Beef Short Ribs
Fall-off-the-bone, melt-in-your-mouth short ribs accompanied with just the right amount of sauce. You’ve never had beef this soft before.
Baked Lobster with Cheese
Tender lobster is baked along with different kinds of cheese. Cheese-lovers, this dish is for you.
Booky tip: Pair this dish with fried mantou instead of the usual rice or noodles and mop up all that cheese sauce!
Sweet and Sour Pork
Xiu puts their own twist to this classic dish by making it with their signature breading and super tender pork.
Baked Black Ink Rice in Clay Pot topped with Seafood
A Chinese twist on this Italian-style dish with chunks of fresh seafood.
Aside from these, they also offer live and fresh seafood that can be cooked in different ways. After finishing all that, are you now ready to top everything off with dessert and drinks? We are!
Longevity Balls
These are hollow rice cakes made from sweet rice flour and coated with sesame seeds then deep fried to perfection.
Xiù is now fully open starting July 29, 2016. Operating hours are: Monday-Friday, 11:30am-2:30pm then 6pm-10pm, and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, 11am-2:30pm and 6pm-10pm.
