10. Amare La Cucina – Kapitolyo
330 Favorites
New entry
Amare La Cucina is an Italian restaurant from Baguio, famous for their brick-oven pizzas in unique flavors and slow-cooked baby back ribs. It’s for people who aren’t willing to travel all the way to Baguio for the good stuff. It’s not for those who are watching their carbs. We recommend trying any of their special pizzas like the Carbonara Pizza, Wagyu Pizza, or Foie Gras with Truffle Oil. Their ribs are also a must-try! Our insider tip: When your pizza is served, try taking a bite of the crust first and taste the warm crispy-chewy texture you can only get with a brick oven!

9. Toast Asian Kitchen and Tasting Room – Closed

Returning entry
Raise a glass to good food and good vibes at Toast Asian Kitchen and Tasting Room. They are bringing some lesser known Asian dishes into the spotlight as well as putting spins on some classics of the cuisine. Aside from their modernized Asian dishes, what sets Toast apart is their tasting room where you can purchase hard to find liquors and wines. This unique aspect of the restaurant allows them to use these rare and varying flavors when creating their range of cocktails. It’s for people who love asian fusion dishes. It’s not for people who are craving for ramen dishes. We recommend their Tom Yum Meatballs, Blaksa, Wagyu Beef with Chinese Broccoli and Twice-Cooked Pork with Salted Egg Fried Rice. Our insider tip: Toast has weekly specials and the occasional off menu item so keep an eye out!

Nikuya is a local concept that’s first to offer Korean grill with Japanese hotpot in one place. Nikuya, along with new restaurants like Kko Kko, Buta+Wagyu, etc. is owned by TV personality and host, Grace Lee. It’s for foodies who love both Japanese and Korean cuisines. It’s not for people looking for sushi and other Japanese specialties. We recommend the Korean BBQ samgyupsal and karubi (boneless short rib), as well as their value-for-money shabu shabu set good for 2-3 persons. Insider tip: Nikuya, which means “butcher” in Japanese, houses a mini-butchery that offers a selection of high-caliber wagyu beef from Buta+Wagyu.

4. Locavore Kitchen + Drinks – Brixton St.
Last month’s #6
True to its name, Locavore serves only locally grown and produced Filipino dishes with a French touch from Chef Mikel Zaguirre (of Taqueria 101 and newly opened Carnivalé). The open kitchen and industrial interiors adds to the modern hipster vibe of the restaurant. It’s for people who enjoy a twist to the classics. It’s not for an intimate occasion. We recommend the Sizzling Sinigang (ask for extra gravy!), Lechon & Oyster Sisig, and its underrated Ginataang Kalabasa. For rice lovers, it’s good to know they also serve brown rice. Our insider tip: you can get a free dessert once you accomplish a feedback form to the restaurant using your Booky.

Last month’s #1
Kko Kko is a modern Korean chicken house that uses traditional and contemporary recipes that came from Grace Lee and her mom. Their menu is divided into three main categories – Korean Fried Chicken, Korean Street Food, and Dosirak (Korean lunch box) – each narrating a story about the dining setting and customs of Korea. It’s for foodies looking for new and unique Korean dishes. It’s not for people looking for grilled Korean BBQ. We recommend the Chicken Cheese Fondue, Snow Chicken Cheese, and Galbi Jim Dosirak.
