It’s back and better than ever. *Restaurant is permanently closed*
You missed out on A LOT if you never tried The Girl + The Bull on Aguirre Ave. It opened in November 2013 and immediately became one of the South’s best-kept secrets for its beautiful interiors, cozy ambience, and innovative approach on food.
The restaurant closed its doors in October 2015, but has now found a new home!
The Girl + The Bull — Legaspi Village
The Girl + The Bull is the brainchild of Gab Bustos (the bull) and Thea De Rivera (the girl), the same hip couple behind popular Japanese izakaya restaurant, 12/10. Inspired by their love of food and art, the product is a unique and visually pleasing dining experience.
You might remember the first The Girl + The Bull for these interiors:
Now, its interiors feature a more colorful palette starting with muted pink walls. It remains girly, balanced with masculine details, “still a reflection of both The Girl and The Bull” as Thea describes it.
Art works, indie music, and a gorgeous high ceiling make the ambience perfect for date nights and catch-ups with friends.
As for the menu, old favorites like the Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Faux Twix are still available–but everything else is mostly new. It features Western and Asian flavors in its selection of bread, snacks, starters, mains, and dessert.
Fun fact: All items are made in-house, including their bread.
Make sure to try the Chicken Skin with Avocado, Mushrooms on Toast, and Bone Marrow with Burnt Onion and Lychee.
If you’re a fan of shrimp, make sure to get their Prawn Rolls!
Aside from the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Gab recommends the Pork Belly with Pineapple Salsa while Sous Chef Papu Dela Cruz prefers the Angus Rib.
Sweet tooth? You’ll love their Banana Popsicle with Dark Chocolate and Walnuts and Faux Twix, of course.
Insider tip: Head upstairs and you'll find a secret bar featuring their extensive wine selection, plus coffee by Habitual Coffee.
Despite that year-long hiatus, the The Girl + The Bull team is back and better than ever. Their biggest learning? “To keep on learning,” says Thea–and with this, the concept has surely outdone itself.
