Kumori Cafe – SM North Edsa
Kumori is a vibrant bakery and cafe that offers calm and comfort through a variety of authentic Japanese breads and pastries, a total opposite to their namesake, a Japanese word which actually means ‘cloudy’. It’s for yuppies or barkadas looking to work or catch up over delicious, Instagram-worthy pastries in a cheerful ambience. It’s not for your boys night out. We recommend the Soft Matcha Bun, Salmon Bonito, and their famous Japanese cheesecake: the Kumori Hanjuku Cheese. Our insider tip: Order their cheesecakes by the box; one piece could easily be finished in 3 bites.

Shinsen Sushi Bar – Pasig
Shinsen is a homegrown Japanese bar and restaurant serving the freshest and finest of this widely popular Asian cuisine. Even though their culinary crew is made up of Filipinos, they’ve perfected their technique thanks to the training of professional Japanese chefs. It’s for fun hangouts when you’re craving authentic Japanese food. It’s not for those looking for fusion dishes or modern twists. We recommend the Norwegian Salmon Sashimi, Kari Kari Kari Yaki Oysters, and their special Japanese Panna Cotta. Our insider tip: If you’re looking for something affordable, get their donburi bowls which already come with soup on the side. There’s free house tea too! P.S. The murals on the wall are portraits of the owners and their staff.

Comfort Tuesdays – Makati / BGC
Open everyday (yes, not just on Tuesdays), Comfort Tuesdays is a chill hangout serving comfort food and a great alcohol selection. It’s for the relaxing catch-up sessions with friends over comfort food and fancy cocktails. It’s not for family brunches with the kids. We recommend the Comfort Boneless Fried Chicken, Comfort Spring Rolls, Portobello Mushroom Pasta and the #Walang Forever dessert, which has ampalaya on it! Our insider tip: See more Century City restaurants here.
Rock & Seoul – SM North / Alabang
Rock & Seoul is a modern Korean restaurant offering a playful twist on the traditional bibimbap. Customers can customize their stone bowls exactly how they want it, with toppings ranging from different proteins, vegetables, sauces, and more. It’s for friends and families looking for a unique and interactive dining experience. It’s not for those looking for a wide array of traditional Korean dishes. We recommend their unique World Baps, which come in flavors like American Breakfast, Pork Salpicao, and even Shawarma. Our insider tip: Their bibimbap isn’t as spicy as what you’d normally find in a Korean resto, so go crazy with their sauces!
CDP Global Table – Rockwell
CDP, which stands for Chef Du Partie, is a global restaurant helmed by Malou Fores (of Mamou and Recovery Food), Katrina Kuhn-Alcantara (of Mesclun & Chuck’s Deli) and Kristine del Gallego-Locsin. Its menu is inspired by the best of what Paris, New York, and Manila have to offer. It’s for fancy dinners with your family, great for special dates too! It’s not for a quick and cheap work lunch. We recommend the Steak Frites, Duck Olio, Truffle Maccheroni, and Triade for dessert. Our insider tip: If the weather is good, try dining al fresco for a different ambience.

Green Pastures – Various Branches
Green Pastures, a farm-to-table concept restaurant created by Chef Robby Goco of crowd-favorite Cyma, promises to deliver locally-sourced and produced, and wholly organic dishes. It’s for people who love salads and higher quality produce. It’s not for people craving good grease. We recommend their salads, homemade cheeses and juice selection. Our insider tip: Chef Robby constantly updates the menu ‘based on what’s in season, what’s new and what’s fresh,’ hence their menu is stamped with a validity period.
Johnny Kahuku Hawaiian Shrimphouse – Eastwood / Newport Mall
Johnny Kahuku is a Hawaiian-inspired restaurant serving fresh seafood picks and luau-worthy BBQ, owned by restaurateur Raymund Magdaluyo and celebrity chef, Peter Ayson. It’s for friends and families looking for a laid-back lunch or dinner spot. It’s not for solo diners who want small portions. We recommend the Special Seafood Poke, Classic Kahuku Shrimp Truck, and Crab Palabok. Our insider tip: If you’re with a big group, definitely go for their combination platters.
