Restaurante Pia Y Damaso – Now closed
Inspired by Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere, Restaurante Pia Y Damaso serves Subversive Filipino Cuisine–paying tribute to the famous novel’s scandalous plot which gave an interesting angle on the entire dining experience this restaurant has to offer.
Long story short: Kapitan Tiyago and Pia Alba found it difficult to conceive and decided to seek help from Padre Damaso, and their visits proved to be successful. Rumor has it though that the notorious priest took advantage of Pia and is said to be the biological father of Pia’s daughter, namely, Maria Clara.
True to its concept, the interiors of this restaurant have that ancestral Spanish vibe that will take you back to that era of Jose Rizal’s prime. The menu also speaks much of its influence and inspiration, showcasing Spanish dishes with a modern twist that make it uniquely Filipino as well.
Appetizers
Albondigas (Meatballs infused with herbs, spices, and slathered on with tomato sauce)
Simple, but exquisite in taste and flavor.
Crisp Cones with Crab, Corn, Tomato Relish (Sauteed mixture of crab meat, corn and onions in crisp fried cones with tomato sauce, herbs and spices)
Not too filling, with each crunchy bite a delicious treat to one’s taste buds, this delicate appetizer is the perfect starter to perk you up.
Salad
Elias (Mixed vegetables with caramelized pineapples, crisp shallots, with seared crocodile meat on top, and mango cilantro vinaigrette as dressing)
A fascinating adventure to dive in a bowl of mixed greens with crocodile meat on top, this is a definite must-try if you want something fresh and exotic.
Mains
Creamy Tinapa Pasta, Asparagus & Fish Fillet (Fish fillet, smoked fish flakes and asparagus in creamy sauce over spaghetti pasta)
Oozing with so much flavor from the creamy sauce of this spectacular pasta dish, this one is not to be missed.
Fideos with Mussels and Chorizo (Toasted vermicelli noodles in white wine, seafood and chorizos)
Similar appearance-wise to a paella, the texture and taste of this dish is both captivating and impressive.
Camaron Cocido (Seafood thermidor of scallops, fish, mussels, squid, potato and cheese on seared prawn)
It’s a seafood love affair.
Callos (Spanish stew of braised ox tripe, pork and beef shanks, bacon and chorizo)
A commonly known Spanish dish, this one has all the makings of a ‘must-try’ trophy label with its unique and nostalgic savory taste.
Dessert
Brazo ni Dona Vicki (Brazo de Mercedes)
Soft meringue with a creamy custard filling, this one has that ‘Damaso twist’ with its chewy crust.
Sisa’s Dementia (Truffle cake with white chocolate, dark chocolate mousse and ganache)
Named after the mother of Crispin and Basilio, Sisa was said to have gone insane when she couldn’t find her sons after they were accused of being thieves. This ridiculously sinful dessert is best paired with a hot cup of coffee.
