Comfort food comes in different forms and sizes. Some may find comfort in a cheesy slice of pizza, a juicy burger, or a warm hotdog sandwich. We don’t mind having it all, but a hotdog just sounds so good right now. And not just any ordinary hotdog–Pink’s Hotdogs has finally arrived to Manila!
Pink’s Hotdogs food cart opened in 1939 at the corner of Melrose and La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles, California. The brand is actually named after husband and wife, Paul and Betty Pink, and not the color.
The small perambulator cart serving Polish Dogs quickly evolved into a hot dog wagon in 1941. Five years later, Mr. Pink purchased the building where his hot dog wagon stood.
Back in the days, a hotdog cost only 10 cents each. Today, you can get a Pink’s dog for $3.95 up to $9.00.
The original Pink’s Hotdogs store is still located on the same spot where it started over 70 years ago. What sets it apart from your usual hot dog stand is the dedicated parking lot for its customers, parking attendants included. Their growth is not one of big scale, it currently has only around 15 branches spread across the US, including Las Vegas and Hawaii.
Pink’s famous Chili Dog is Mrs. Pink’s masterpiece. The aroma of the savory chili sauce and fresh warm bread draws hundreds of visitors every day.
Over the years, Pink’s has turned into a hot dog mecca for celebrities who are looking to get their sandwich fix. Pink’s offers “Super Star Dogs”, customized sandwiches that are actual orders of different Hollywood icons and personalities at their store. Some of their Super Star Dogs include the Martha Stewart Dog, Brando Dog, Ozzy Spicy Dog, Ryan Lochte Dog, and even a Lord of the Rings Dog!
Other menu items include burgers, chili cheese fries, and other Super Special Dogs with overloaded toppings.
Thanks to the people behind Wildflour Cafe + Bakery, Pink’s Hotdogs will be opening at the new Shangri-la Fort in BGC soon. This is the hotdog chain’s first international location.
