Typically made from a combination of crushed pine nuts, garlic, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, olive oil, and basil leaves, pesto is best known as that ubiquitous sauce in Italian cooking. It has a distinctive bright green color that lends a touch of vibrance to any dish.
