It’s basically an ice cream burrito!
Peanut ice cream roll originated from a Taiwan Yilan and is one of the many specialty dishes that Taiwan has to offer.
What is it?
It’s basically an ice cream burrito or spring roll! Also called ice cream popiah, this interestingly bizarre dessert actually works. It is made by wrapping three scoops of ice cream, shaved peanut brittle and coriander leaves (optional) into a handmade spring roll wrap or crepe.
Where to get it in Manila?
Wasai is the first to offer Taiwanese peanut ice cream rolls in the Philippines with a Filipino twist. The owners found it similar to our well-loved sorbetes and suitable for a tropical country like ours, which is why they decided to re-create this popular dessert here.
Wasai is an exclamatory expression would use when Taiwanese would say when they get shocked, amazed or surprised. It's the equivalent of "wow" in English.
Wasai Ice Cream Rolls are priced at P80 each. Flavors vary from vendor to vendor. Most Taiwanese vendors offer pineapple, taro and peanut flavors, but Wasai offers Vanilla, Strawberry and Taro. Customers are free to choose which flavors they want in their rolls.
More flavors will be added soon: ube, cheese, pineapple, chocolate. Drop a request and you might see it in stores soon.
