Nomads BBQ + Refuge – Makati
Nomads BBQ + Refuge is a modern Taiwanese bar and restaurant along Jupiter in Makati that offers unlimited DIY Mongolian bowls paired with affordable drinks and cocktails.
Fun fact: Did you know that the first Mongolian-style BBQ originated in Taiwan?
The restaurant offers two dining areas for your choosing: al fresco or indoor seating. Since the restaurant opens at 5PM (for now), you can enjoy the cool breeze outside and even smoke while enjoying your cold brews.
The sign installed above their cooking area lives up to the culinary philosophy of the Taiwanese cuisine and translates to “Eat Often, Eat Well.”
Nomads’ customized round griddle draws inspiration from ancient Mongolian shields. Vegetarians are welcome here; their cooking area showcases a divider to separate vegetarian bowls from the rest of the orders.
The owners encourage customers to customize and be creative with their Mongolian bowls.
Insider tip: No idea on how to create your own bowl? Don't be shy to ask Chef Bryan, Chef Alex, or any of the staff members for suggestions.
Step 1: Rice & Noodles
Choices: Brown rice, Jasmine rice, Taiwanese rice noodles and Chinese egg noodles.
Step 2: Vegetables & Spices
Choices: Bean sprouts, broccoli, nori, spinach, string beans, tomato, cilantro, basil, kimchi, sesame seeds, grated ginger, and many more.
Step 3: Meat & Seafood
Choices: Beef, pork, chicken, squid, and tofu. Get them all if you must, but if you’re going for unlimited bowls, we suggest you go for small portions first. After all, you should always save room for dessert!
Insider tip: You can add eggs and have it sunny-side up for a runny yolkporn action.
Step 4: Sauces
Choices: Classic Mongolian BBQ, Spicy Kung Pao, Peanut Sauce, Coconut Curry and their signature Miso Butter sauce. Hand it over to one of their staff and watch as they cook your food right in front of you.
Insider tip: Don't turn your bowl into a salty soup bowl by adding too much sauce--one scoop is more than enough for each serving.
Buffet Price: P555 per head
7:00-10:00PM
After 10PM, you can still avail a single order of Mongolian bowl for P295.
Nomads goes big on their selection of local and international drinks. Their Wagyu + Whisky Wednesdays (WWW) draws many hump day crowds as they offer premium wagyu sticks and a shot of Japanese whisky for only P88 each.
P.S. Looking for a rare alcoholic find? Ask for their bottle of Cazadorez Reposado Tequila.
Insider tip: Their tables are customized to fit in a rectangular "ice tray" for your cold bottles of beer.
