It seems like 2016 may be the year of desserts for us as we’re continuously welcoming new and unique, sweet trends to add to our ‘MUST-TRY‘ bucket list. Sometimes, we’re already contented with a simple slice of cake or a scoop of ice cream after meals, but a few tweaks here and there on the classics is something that we’ll always look forward to.

From ice cream on doughnut cones, fried ice cream rolls, ice cream on churro bowls, to whoopie pies, gourmet marshmallows and raindrop cakes, 2016 may be the best year for our sweet tooth cravings. One thing’s for sure, the year is not over yet so keep it coming.

Taiyaki Ice Cream – Lucky JPMM Taiyaki Ice Cream

Lucky JPMM takes pride in offering the first ever Taiyaki ice cream here in the Philippines! Taiyakis are Japanese fish-shaped waffle cones stuffed with premium quality soft serve ice cream.

Raindrop Cake – Dew Dew Cake PH

New York’s raindrop cake craze has finally hit Manila! Thanks to Dew Dew Cake, we can now try out for ourselves this popular water cake (also called ‘Mizu Shingen Mochi’) that is said to disappear after 30 minutes! As of now, they have four flavors to choose from: Kuromitsu (Muscovado Sugar), Kurimu (Mangoes and Cream), Matcha and their newest flavor, Chokoreto.

Doughnut Ice Creams – Dip N’ Dough

Dip N’ Dough is one of the most popular vendors at The Yard Xavierville food park. It is the first to offer doughnut ice creams in Manila. They also offer mini doughnuts and pretzels served with a side of dip (matcha, Belgian chocolate and dulce de leche) and toppings (Kit-Kat, Oreos and almonds).

It’s a smoothie in a bowl. Incredibowl goes fit and healthy with their refreshing Brazilian Acai Bowls made up of thick smoothie, with toppings like fruits, peanut butter, chia seeds and other healthy goodies. These Acai bowls can be consumed as a hearty breakfast or a yummy dessert!

A retro revival of the 1900’s diner, Black Sugar at StrEat: Maginhawa Food Park serves comfort desserts including churros, craft cream sodas and their unique funnel cakes. Funnel cakes are crispy like waffles, deep fried like doughnuts and fluffy like pancakes. It is then topped with sprinkled sugar and best enjoyed with ice cream.

Specialty Ice Cream Cones – Westwood

Westwood is one of the newest restaurants in Quezon City offering fresh new food concepts such as the sushirrito (sushi + burrito) and their specialty ice cream cone creations. Get ice cream flavors like Blue Monster and Mudpie and have it on one of their specially coated cones with cereals like Milo balls and rice crispies. HK Steamed Milk + Eggettes – Milk Trade

Milk Trade is one of the dessert stalls at Hole in the Wall that specializes in HK steamed milk,  a custard-like dessert, paired with crispy eggettes. Eggette flavors include plain, black sesame, matcha and chocolate.

BLK 513 is Manila’s first ever activated charcoal-enhanced U.S. premium gluten-free frozen Greek yogurt or basically, the first black yogurt. Landers is a newly opened membership superstore that offers a wide selection of local and international grocery items, food, coffee and many more. One of our biggest finds here is Mercer’s Dairy, home of the famous NYC wine ice cream. We spotted flavors like Strawberry Sparkling, Peach White Zinfandel, Cherry Merlot, Chocolate Cabarnet, Red Raspberry Chardonnay and more.
