Puzzles: Board Game Lounge
Puzzles: Board Game Lounge is a board game café conceptualized by a group of young and hungry gamer entrepreneurs whose goal was to create something that builds genuine connections amongst families and friends through fun, competitive tabletop games and good food. And that’s exactly what they’ve done.
In just less than a year, they were able to dominate the board game space in BF Homes (where their first branch is located) and open a second branch at the Fort Strip BGC. You can find them right beside Early Bird Breakfast Club.
Puzzles BGC is, without a doubt, a bigger and better Puzzles—Puzzles 2.0 if we may call it—where every spot was obviously intended to give all guests a reason to post a photo on Instagram. We love the modern industrial lights, high ceiling, panoramic chalkboard menu, the private room on the 2nd floor with an overlooking view, and of course their signature grass lounge and colorful shelves and chairs.
Visiting a new place with already regular customers can be quite intimidating but it’s not the case in Puzzles. It’s actually a great place to make new friends out of strangers who obviously have the same passion for fun games and friendly competition. But to make it less intimidating for newbies who are more shy than others, it always helps to know, or at least pretend to know, where to go and what to do upon arriving. Here’s a virtual tour and some valuable tips:
Step 1: Scout for seats.
But they do have reservations. So it’s always better to call and reserve ahead, especially when you’re a big group. The place can comfortably accommodate around 70 people or a maximum of 90. You can even reserve the whole place or the private room on the 2nd floor for your private events.
Step 2: Grab a game.
There are over 150 tabletop games to choose from but the hottest items on their shelves are Avalon, Cards Against Humanity and Telestrations. Boxes may be limited, so hopefully you’re able to grab the game that you were eyeing for. It’s important to remind everyone not to hoard games and to keep the community open–share a board and win some friends.
Step 3: Seal your meals.
This was a bit tricky, we were tempted to tell you to order first before grabbing a game because food may take awhile to come out as they are still on soft opening, but we figured you can do both if you already know what to order. Their full menu is up on the Booky app.
We ordered the following dishes during our visit:
And because we weren’t able to order their bestsellers, we have to go back and try their: Fried Chicken and Cheese Pasta, Grilled Cajun Pork, the Oreo Afraid of the Dark?
Step 4: Stay and Play
You can now start playing (or roam around and take photos) while waiting for your orders. To keep up with new games and maintenance, the Puzzles team charges a Stay and Play fee of P100 per head on top of your bill. This is non-consumable but allows you to use all their board games and stay for as long as you want. Don’t be shy, approach any of the friendly coaches to save you time from learning the kinks of a new game.
Now you can visit Puzzles looking like pros and regular customers! Don’t bother looking for a Wi-Fi signal because there’s none. It’s time we go back to basics and learn the art of interacting with fellow humans outside of our phones and tablets. Visit Puzzles BGC because you are in for a great time!
