Gyoza fans, rejoice!
In case you haven’t heard yet, there’s a new Japanese franchise that just opened in BGC.
Chao Chao Gyoza from Osaka opened its first branch in BGC last March 19 introducing its famous block gyoza to Manila. When a “two-time winner of best gyoza in Japan” is attached to a restaurant name, expectations rise.
From a mere 14-seater shop back in 1999, Chao Chao, led by owner Kengo Nishi, is now spread out all over Japan with a franchise in Hong Kong and now the Philippines.
Uniquely, Chao Chao serves their award-winning Original Gyoza by the block, which comes in eight pieces of dumplings filled with pork and cabbage.
The gyoza blocks are cooked using a special procedure on a griddle for five to six minutes.

Fans of their dumplings have continuously raved about the perfectly crisp wrapper and tasty fillings.
You may also opt for the Chao Chao Winning Set, which already comes with one side dish, a cup of Japanese rice and draft beer or soda. Side dishes include bean sprouts, pickled cucumbers and pickled cabbage. Go premium with bibimbap or lotus root salad for an additional charge.
Insider tip: You may replace the side dish with an additional cup of rice or miso soup while draft beer can be replaced with local bottled beer.
Other special gyoza varieties include Shrimp, Crab & Shrimp, Mushroom, Chicken and Mozzarella Cheese, Chicken Wing, and Onion Gyoza.
Insider tip: Take home frozen Chao Chao gyoza.
Aside from gyoza, Chao Chao also serves other Japanese favorites like katsu items and yakitori.
Don’t forget to cap off your visit with the only dessert on their menu–Chocolate Gyoza with Vanilla Ice Cream.
Insider tip: Add P50 for another scoop of ice cream!
Chao Chao Philippines currently has two stores, the W City Center branch can accommodate 64 people while the newer Venice Grand Canal branch can seat up to 89 people.
