Vampire facial, bird poop facial, and even fire facial.
We decided over at Booky that it’s high time to go beyond food and give you more. There’s so much to do and discover and we’re opening up Metro Manila to help you find your flavor starting with fitness and beauty. The new and improved Booky is stronger and cuter than ever.
With skin care and self love being a trend for the past few years, it comes as no surprise that there’s been an increasing number of various procedures such as facials, being offered to the market all in attempt to provide you with the facial that suits your unique skin.
Although there are classic facials that have worked time and time again which people have been availing of, once in a while, facial spa’s like to change it up a bit by offering bizarre ones that they claim can show your skin some TLC too.
Here are 10 of the most bizzare facials that we (and you) probably didn’t know existed but do.
10. Snake Venom Facial
Tried and tested by no other than Gwyneth Paltrow, the snake venom facial is popular for reducing the appearance of fine lines and relaxing the facial muscles which in turn increases skin elasticity.
Fun fact: This facial is very much similar to Botox.
Procedure: Despite the fear factor of snake venom, the facial itself is pretty simple and tame. Experts collect the snake venom, incorporate it in a product like a moisturizer and apply it to the client’s face.
9. Bee Venom Facial
To bee or not to bee? Yet another facial that Gwyneth Paltrow underwent, the Bee Facial is known to use bee venom to fool you skin into thinking it’s been stung which will stimulate the production of collagen and give you smooth complexion.
Fun Fact: Also called as "natural botox", there are other celebrities who also avail of these facials such as Kate Middleton.
Procedure: Similar to the snake venom facial, bee venom will also be incorporated to cream before being applied. If you want something more interesting, check out how bee venom is extracted.
8. Placenta Facial
Who says babies are the only ones that can benefit from placentas? Used by celebrities like Eva Longoria to rejuvenate the skin, the placenta facial has been known to have other benefits like anti-aging and treating acne.
Fun fact: They use either human, sheep, or botanicals that have similar nutrients to human placenta.
Procedure: Similar to the snake venom facial, the placenta will also be incorporated into a product that will be applied on the client’s face.

Considered as one of the more controversial albeit popular facials is the Bird Feces Facial, the go-to facial of Victoria Beckham. A Japanese treatment that utilizes Asian nightingale droppings, this facial claims to soften, brighten, and nourish facial complexion.
Fun fact: This Facial is also known as the Geisha facial.
Procedure: After sterilizing, drying, and grinding the Asian nightingale’s droppings, it is then added to cream and applied on the client’s face.
6. Caviar Facial
The ingredients may be fishy but one thing’s for sure, to those who are looking for something different, the Caviar Facial is perfect for you. A facial that’s best for those with acne-prone skin, some benefits are that it can stimulate metabolism and enrich the skin with nutrients.
Fun fact: The caviar used doesn't smell as fishy as the caviar that we eat.
Procedure: The caviar is applied simply and quickly. They’re usually wrapped in gauze and placed on the face of the client.
5. Gold Facial
Stay golden by applying gold on your skin – literally! Offered by several high-end facial spas in the US, the Gold Facial is known to improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, whiten dark spots, and many more!
Fun fact: There are sources that say that this facial has been around since the time of Cleopatra.
Procedure: Just like many of the other facials, gold is incorporated into creams or sometimes, is pounded until it becomes gold leaves, then it’s applied on the client’s face.

4. Diamond and Ruby Facial
Shine bright like diamond with this facial. Popularized by Mila Kunis, the Diamond and Ruby Facial claims to hydrate the skin as well as refine lines and wrinkles to produce smooth and glowing skin.
Fun fact: The facial that Mila Kunis availed of was worth $7,000.
Procedure: There are two different ways this kind of facial is done. One, the precious stones are crushed and used to exfoliate the client‘s face or two, the stones will be turned into powder and added with other ingredients to create a mask.
3. Vampire Facial
If you’re a hardcore fan of Kim Kardashian then you must know what this facial is. If you’re not, the Vampire Facial is an interesting facial that involves using your own blood to increase collagen, elasticin, and many more!
Fun fact: It's also called the PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) facial.
Procedure: First, your blood is drawn. Then, the blood drawn is placed in a centrifuge so that the plasma that’s going to be used, may be separated from the other components that make up blood. Afterwards, micro-needling is done and finally, your face will be slathered with the PRPs.
2. Snail Facial
Thanks to the Koreans, for the past recent years, we have benefited from snail mucin (with different ingredients) in Korean beauty products.
If you’re looking for a concentrated version of snail mucin, avail of a Snail Facial which claims to treat dry skin, even out skin tone, and control acne as well as tighten pores and many more!
Procedure: Compared to the other facials, the snail facial is simple and straightforward. Snails are placed on your face, allowing them to crawl all over, leaving their slime for your skin to absorb.

1. Fire Facial
Out of all the facials mentioned, this one has to be the most LIT – literally and figuratively. A popular facial treatment in China, the Fire Facial claims to help cell generation and to prevent acne and wrinkles.
Fun fact: In China, it's called the Huo liao treatment.
Procedure: First, a piece of cloth is soaked in alcohol. Then, the cloth is placed on the client’s face – that’s after the client has been massaged and has been slathered with a special “elixir”– and lit on fire. After a while, the fire will be extinguished with another cloth.
