STOTT is a type of Pilates that was developed by Moira Stott-Merrithew after she had to retire from being a ballet dancer due to her injuries. Unlike other brands of Pilates, this method pays attention to strengthening the neutral spine to improve balance, coordination, and flexibility—correct posture and form, after all, are important components of fitness.
Pilates forces you to be very aware of your body. You have to have the correct alignment of your spine and limbs in order to properly execute the simplest sequences, hence Mindful Movement. Pilates stretches out your muscles and makes them long, lean, and strong.
STOTT Pilates is based on modern sports science. It’s a safe activity for people looking for rehab exercises, as STOTT has it’s own method for patients needing rehabilitation. MMA is the only Pilates studio in the country that offers STOTT REHAB Pilates.
New to Pilates or fitness in general? No need to feel shy. MMA’s international-standard trained instructors are friendly and approachable. Their method of instruction heavily relies on imagery. You’ll hear ornate sentences like, “Inhale as if your are smelling a flower,” and “Let your shoulders kiss the mat.”
MMA recommends that newbies sign up for private sessions first in order to learn the basics without pressure. They do this so that the exercise is tailor-fit to your needs.
After getting to know pilates, you can sign up for their group reformer or mat classes. Reformers are the machines they use for strengthening and doing cardiovascular exercises.
