Book a table and get P300 off!
A lot of people want to open restaurants. Sure, some people open places in haste and they don’t do too well. Others start with out-of-the-box ideas that had the timing right and they just flew. There are also those who wait for the perfect time and the perfect concept before they start building menus and dinner services. Alter Ego did just that.

Straight out of culinary school, the trio knew they wanted to open a place of their own but they wanted everything to be just right. It’s possible that they never decided what was just right because Alter Ego is an Asian-European fusion restaurant.

Looking at the restaurant from the outside, it’s very modern and minimal. In away, it’s very neutral so that the food is the main attraction. Inside the restaurant, which was completely designed by the owners, each wall has it’s own theme.
The photographs on the walls were either taken by the owners or are photos of the owners themselves. The decor on the shelves are from the owners’ travels and are mementos from all over the world. Alter Ego really is a fusion of so many places and showcases them from the walls to your plate.
Most fusion spots mesh together 2 cuisines (French-Japanese, Filipino-Mexican, etc.) but Alter Ego is mixing and matching as many elements from as many cuisines as possible. It’s a tall order and by some miracle, it worked.
Alter Ego Salad
Garlic shrimp, gorgonzola cheese, candied walnuts, white onions, red lollo rosso, iceberg and romaine lettuce, and mango vinaigrette
Pumpkin Soup Souffle
Pumpkin soup, shiitake mushrooms, and a cheese souffle on top
Fun Fact: The Pumpkin Soup Souffle was inspired by a homemade broccoli soup that one of the owners made for her son as a kid.
French Onion Soup Gyoza
French onion soup over ground beef and caramelized onion gyoza, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese
Their menu is not big but it’s one big mashup. French onion soup gyoza (French-Japanese) and Pandan Chicken Paella (Thai-Spanish) are just the tips of the iceberg. Alter Ego, and their modern mashup of classic dishes, is full of flavor combinations that will surprise you.
Twice-cooked Pork Belly
6-hour sous-vide then grilled pork belly, ratatouille and buttered basil rice
Salted Egg Shrimp Pasta
Fried shrimp, cherry tomatoes, and a rich salted egg sauce over ramen noodles
The original plan for Alter Ego was supposed to be a degustation restaurant. With a risque concept as wide as theirs, however, they decided to stick to an ala carte restaurant for now and work out the kinks.
Chicken Pandan on Paella
Thai chicken pandan on chorizo paella rice with red curry aioli, sesame soy sauce, and pickled green mango on the side
Testing is not something the owners are unfamilar with. They spent 4 months testing their recipes and concepts with several groups of people before they found the jackpot combinations. And let us tell you now, they picked real winners.
Coconut Mango Gateau
Coconut milk, bavarian cream, mango gelatin, desiccated coconut, rum, and biscuit-type sponge
Chocolate Cake
Implementing as many elements from as many cuisines as they possibly could, the dishes at Alter Ego are some that you’ve never seen before and probably wont see anywhere else. Don’t even get us started on the desserts, all of which are made in house and from scratch.
Cranberry Orange Rosemary
Cranberry juice, fresh orange juice, hints of rosemary
Alter Ego wants to showcase the different sides of every dish. While some of the flavors don’t classically go together, they wanted to show you their alter egos and celebrate that.
Cucumber Apple Mint
Fresh apple and cucumber juice poured over mint ice cubes
Cafe Latte
So the next time you can’t pinpoint what exactly you’re craving, don’t decide and get a bit of everything in the most exciting way. Admit it, you’re curious about Alter Ego.
